Shopify Indexing Challenges
Shopify stores face slow product discovery, canonical issues with variants, and limited URL control. For a full workflow tailored to stores, see our instant indexing for Shopify use case and Shopify integration setup.
- Large product catalogs where new products take weeks to be discovered
- Canonical URL issues with product variants creating near-duplicate pages
- JavaScript-rendered content that Googlebot may struggle to process
- Limited control over URL structure
Shopify's Built-in Sitemap
Shopify automatically generates a sitemap at /sitemap.xml covering products, collections, blogs, and pages. Submit this to Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools as a starting point.
Using Indexaro with Shopify
Add your Shopify domain to Indexaro, verify ownership, and enable auto-submit. Indexaro scans your sitemap and submits new product and collection pages to Google, Bing, and Yandex automatically. Use Shopify product creation/update webhooks to trigger immediate submissions on publish. Learn more in our Google indexing service overview.
Handling Product Variants
Shopify creates URLs for product variants (/products/shirt?variant=12345). Shopify adds canonical tags automatically pointing to the main product URL. Verify these are correct using URL Inspection in Search Console. Only submit canonical product URLs — never variant parameter URLs.
Priority Submission Strategy
- New product launches — immediate submission on creation
- Sale and promotional collection pages — before the campaign starts
- High-margin product pages — worth prioritizing quota on
- Updated product descriptions on important items
